Edible Type - Festive Brief

We were briefed just before christmas as a festive brief to create some edible type.
We were able to choose our own groups. I grouped up with Liam Sayer
and we looked into typography cakes and food.

We looked at several other and decided to bake a cake in a christmas tree shape and decorate it with type made up of icing.

100 - Studio Brief 02 - Continued (OUGD405)

I then had a thought as to how I would put this within a presentation and had very little ideas however, the main reason as to why I decided to change topics was because I saw something on Pinterest that especially grabbed my attention.

I think this statement is very strong as I believe we as a generation do not appreciate the small things and forget the meaning behind memories. I also go on Facebook occasionally and notice that even my family post pictures of their new borns on Facebook just so they can get a like or a comment from someone.

We then had an interim crit were I suggested this idea with many other ideas and others within my group seemed to agree with this statement and said it stood out most to them too.
Other people suggested that the main reason why people use phone cameras is because photos don't cost and that they can take a picture and see whether they like it or not. As a group everyone decided that people take too many photos and don't even think about them.

100 - Studio brief 02 - Research (OUGD405)

For our brief we were given the task to create something that would be associated with the number 100. It consists of 20 facts, 20 opinions, 20 words, 20 statistics and 20 photographs. At first I was very confused with the brief as to how I could use the number 100 to influence my work. I started looking at things that were around me that could potentially be used as my main topic.

My first thought was to do something about football as it is something that I am very passionate about and there were a lot of facts that contained the number 100. I especially enjoyed the 100 years since the Christmas Truce during the WW1 because it's something that everyone agreed on and involved people having some time off to spend with their family whilst the war was going on. I also thought that this was a very good topic as this brief is going throughout Christmas.

Finishing photo frames

I decided to play around with the thought of shapes mixed with memories. I wanted to make the photo frames more personal so that the buyer could be more personal to his photo frame and make it something memorable.

I wanted to create something that would be remembered and so that you could see parts of what your image might look like. I decided to use the taxi photo that I found on a royalty free website so you can see how a memory could be used as a photo backing and how it could influence you to buying it.

I then decided to continue this idea however using just one template that I created earlier. The template that I created involved using cut out triangles that would then be replaced with the image on photoshop.

I then decided to use photos that were known such as the London Eye that could be used in souvenir shops. Here are my final 3 ideas. If I could go back and edit these photos I would try to make them more subtle so that they would work better as a set of 3.

I really liked this photoframe because it reminded me a broken journey that you could see yourself taking. It also looks like the triangles are starting to form an image.

I like this photo frame because it reminds me of back home and could be seen in souvenir shops around London

I decided to use this as my one of my final 3 sets because I like the idea of the split between the sea and the sky and makes you realise what the final pieces in the middle would make it.

Creating photo frames (OUGD405)

I then started to create my own patterns that could potentially be used as a guide for a photo frame. I liked the idea of repeating a shape several times to create a pattern that would then be used.

I then start to play around with the shapes and created quickly designed photo frames that could influence my work and then be used to develop my final designs. Although I am not very satisfied with these designs I think they will help me influence my final design.

Looking at shapes and patterns. (OUGD405)

I was looking at various shapes that I could use for my final photo frame backing paper. I decided to go back to basics and try create something simple and subtle. I was trying to create something that would be different and would stand out for the wrong reason. The designs were overcomplicated and didn't look like they would fit in any shop.
I decided to look at shapes and how they can be used to create a pattern. Here are a few;

For these designs I liked how simple and geometric the shapes were. I also liked the colour choice making each square different whilst working together.  I was thinking of creating something similar to this that would draw your attention and make it eye catching. I want my design to almost give the buyer a preview of what they could potentially use within their frame.

I then started to look at various shapes that could work within one another and the use of repeating a shape. I almost wanted to create an illusion of shapes that are put together to make it more eye catching and to make it stand out to the other frame photos that I've seen.
I like how the shapes put together create a pattern and make the page more colourful and urban.
