OUGD603 - Module Evaluation

This module has been challenging because of time management. Dissertations were being handed in at the same time as OUGD603 was getting started. I particularly as I had difficulties with my previous module. However, after getting over that stump, I found that OUGD603 was the most rewarding. It is the end of the year which means it is near the end of university. This means that OUGD603 has prepared me to set off into the real world which involves working with clients.

A lot of positives happened for me throughout extended practice, I started off by working with Sam Rogan who I am now in a partnership with in a new clothing line that I have designed. A lot of my work has been client based, therefore, I got most of my clients involved into my university briefs as this gives me a chance to learn properly how to design design boards as well as presentation boards. After requesting some feedback from my clients they said they were all satisfied with their final outcomes and hope to use me in the future.

I have learnt a lot from OUGD603; being able to work independently and as a team. Working with clients from Leeds to even abroad has taught me key communication skills as well as being able to email back properly to get more of a response. Most of my projects have been based on clients and this has given me some experience before I enter the real world.  I have also learnt new techniques that I have wanted to learn such as video editing to which I produced Euphorias promotional video for Secret Session. I have also worked with video editing throughout PPP and hope to pursue this hobby.

I have enjoyed my third year as it has taught me a lot about the next steps after university. I believe I am ready to go to the real world and give my input into the design industry. Throughout most of my briefs I have kept my style consistant as well as working with clients needs. Although my style is monochromatic doing client work has taught me to use colour and to be able to get the right outcome for the client. After university I intend to continue with Graphic Design as well as moving myself more into Fashion Design. I feel that I have learnt all the techniques and methods that will give me the courage to go out and create my own clothing label/brand.

Throughout my module feedbacks I have said that I normally focus more towards the end product. My work for OUGD603 is very research heavy which has informed my final decisions more. If I could go back and change something, I wish I spent more time on the final products as I could have been a bit more creative and experimental, however, working with clients and deadlines I am still happy with my final outcomes and time management throughout the year. My design boards have also improved since Amber and Simon helped me understand them more and helped me go through an old design board.

To conclude, I am satisfied that all my clients were satisfied with their final outcomes. I also enjoyed learning more about the world through going out of my comfort zone and go help local homeless people. After speaking to some homeless people within the shelter I have gained some inspiration to go and create design that could help people. I also enjoyed working on a live brief with my parents as it gave me a chance to show my experience and knowledge that I have learnt throughout university.

OUGD603 - Squarespace - Final outcome

Squarespace wanted a website that would be engaging and help creatives generate their work to the public. It is a simple, easy function, unique website. Writing text on the side of the website shows what each function does and how it works.

Mock up of final website previews.
I have successfully created a website for creatives that I intend to use for my own personal use. It is a great design layout to help creatives make themselves be more aware to the industries.

OUGD603 - Squarespace - Development

Wireframes help create the foundation for the website.  Wireframes are used for designers to see the product before images and icons go onto the website.
Through the research, I will be using both words and lines to demonstrate my initial ideas.
Here we have a full website lineout created using illustrator vectors.

OUGD603 - Squarespace - Initial ideas / Development

It was important to acquire a brand indentity name that would be appealing to creatives and help them branch to further industries.
The name ‘inventor’ came after using the thesaurus with the words creative > Inventor.
Inventor is a builder, author, innovator, maker, designer, all these words relate to a creative. Therefore the brand sub genre under Squarespace will be called ‘inventor’.

OUGD603 - Squarespace - Research

Researching into website design and how they function. Creating a creative website requires looking at existing websites. Each of these designs uses boxs and wireframes to help organise each website.
Each website is creative. Willow is simple which uses a simple box layout.
John Smith website uses geometric shapes to make it more engaging and eye catching. This is a website I will take inspiration from.

The last website uses boxs only and thin, legible text that demostrates the simplicity.

Looking at existing wireframes to take inspiration and create a unique, original wireframe to benefit creatives to help them reach out more clients.
Each wireframe is different, yet both use box’s to demonstrate each image positioning. Although the blue wireframe use words to visualise where  text might be placed.
I will be using both of the wireframes to develop my own personal wireframe initial ideas.

Squarespace
Design a creative website. Design a new Squarespace website template for designers and creatives to showcase their work, and get hired. You must consider establishing a design system which users can populate and customise to express their own creativity.

Concept
Create a wireframe that designers and creatives can use within their own design website. The website will be placed using current work to promote myself as a designer.

OUGD603 - Prophet - Final outcome

Business cards have been created using the logo as the centre on the front, whilst the back is simply, easy to read and easy to contact. Currently, myself and sam do not want to put any address’ or emails as we want to be personal with our clients by using telephones to communicate easier.

We have both ordered 50 business cards to use throughout summer for contacts.

Logo is very simple which has a greek symbol within which relates to unity. The logo is a cut off with the E being used as two lines to keep it unique and original.

Promotional photography is to help expand the company further. I have played around on photoshop using contrast and levels to change the photographs to match a clean crisp look of the t-shirts/jumpers printed.

Using models to wear our clothes and being able to take charge of the photography and be the director was satisfying and rewarding.

OUGD603 - Prophet - Development

Using illustrator I have tried to use triangles and hands together to create simplified designs for a logo. Although after working with triangles, it didn’t represent that it was a clothing label.

Sam agreed that Prophet wasn’t working as a logo for a fashion brand. We decided on the last logo which is a type that has been cut and shaped into a greek symbol. - Relating back to the  ‘research - about Prophet’ .

Development in business cards. Looking at triangles but eventually sticking to the logo typeface. There is a big collection of business cards and logo designs that have been successful and have been used further for other purposes within the logo.

OUGD603 - Prophet - Initial Ideas

Quick initial sketches that show a variation of designs from a big range of research.

Initial ideas using icons of power (Hand in a fist) and icons of unity (triangles). As well as playing with the ideas of having a logo as a typeface.

OUGD603 - Prophet - Research

Researching into icons and images of power and being.
Prophet clothing is about power to the people. The use of hands as a sign of power. The raised fist, or the clenched fist, is a symbol of solidarity and support.[1] It is also used as a salute to express unity, strength, defiance, or resistance. The salute dates back to ancient Assyria as a symbol of resistance in the face of violence.

Δ means “the change in”, and δ means “a small amount of”. Delta is the fourth letter in the Greek alphabet. The capital letter Δ corresponds to the English letter D, and the lowercase δ corresponds to the English letter d. In chemistry, Δ means “the change in”

Looking more specifically into triangles, their shapes, icons. Many of these images are geometric. Looking at triangles as they represent unity of the people which represents Prophet.
Many of these designs are very iconic and eye-catching. They are very modern designs which consist of different forms of triangles.

Since Prophet is a fashion brand, it is important to recognise its style and what is different about Prophetclothing.
Firstly, looking at these designs Prophet will have an ‘edgy’ look that is similar to Blood Brother, Ted Baker, Supreme, Sunnei and many more.
Therefore, the designs should be simplistic and easy to understand with a twist.
